The Peyote Festival

The Peyote Festival

One of the many ways to approach pre-Hispanic cultures and understand their ways of seeing the world are without a doubt the ritual dances that are characterized by evoking the elements of the universe. For example, in the Hikuri Neirra or peyote celebration, the dances performed by Huichol peyoteros to the beat of violins and guitars represent an offering to attract rain, fertility and abundance.

The peyoteros dance towards the four cardinal points starting from the center, nucleus or fire.
